Caesar | King who ruled all the Roman people in the days of Jesus. |
chaff | Broken pieces of the skin from grain seeds like wheat. |

Christ | A name given to Jesus. Messiah or Saviour. It means the person who is sent to save people from God's punishment for bad ways. The only One who can make people right with God.
The One who will come again soon to rule over God's kingdom. |
Christian | Person who follows and believes in Jesus Christ. |
church | A group of people who follow and believe in Jesus Christ. (NOT a church building.) |
circumcise | Cut off of loose skin from the tip of the sex part of a boy or man. God told Abraham to do this to family and their children.
It was very important for Jews to obey this law and to have this special mark of the Jew. |
cock | Male chicken which calls out and makes a loud noise early in the day. Cockerel. Rooster. |
conceive | When a baby begins life inside the mother. |
condemnation | punished as by the law |
confirm | To prove true, to strengthen the true |
consecrated | made for use of God only |
contradiction | a number of things or thoughts which are opposite to each other |
covenant | An agreement between two or more people. Agreement between God and the people or a person. |
cross | Two pieces of wood fixed together. The Romans punished people by nailing them to a cross to die. Jesus died this way.
The cross is now the symbol or sign of the Christian church. |
crown | A hat in the shape of a circle worn by a king or given to someone as a reward. Also, a reward in heaven. |
curse | 1) To use bad words. Say something bad to a person.
2) The unhappiness that comes to a person because of the bad words. |
idolatry (idolatrous) | Worshipping a person or object in place of the true God. |
immorality | impure,sinful,wickedness,corruption |
incarnation | Taking on the human form and body.
God's coming to earth in the human form of Jesus. |
incense | Something that gives a sweet smell when it burns. Used in worshipping God at the temple in Jerusalem. |
incest | sexual relationship between people who are not allowed to marry as too closely related. |
incestuous | The act of incest. |
infallible | Not able to make mistakes or be wrong. |

Mesopotamia | Greek word meaning "between two rivers" A fertile area of land covering the upper and middle of the Euphrates. Later used to mean the whole Tigris - Euphrates valley, i.e. Iraq today |
mock | fake, make-believe, make fun of, ridicule,copy or imitate in an unkind way |
myrrh | Sweet-smelling spice which helps to take away pain. |
mysticism | The belief that knowledge of God can be gained by contemplation or thinking about it. |
parable | A ‘parable’ is a story which illustrates a teaching to help understand the listeners understand the teaching. See Matt 13:13 |
Passover | The time each year when the Jews remember how God saved them from being slaves in Egypt. They came to Jerusalem, to meet in the temple and to share food together. A feast. |

Pentecost | The time each year when the Jews thank God for their food. Also the time when God gave the Holy Spirit to the church. |
Pestilence | Diseases and infections which have no cure. |
Pharisees | Group of Jews who thought they kept all of God's laws. They did not like the teaching of Jesus. They thought they did not have any wrong ways, so they became very proud. |
prejudice | A judgement or opinion formed before an event or with no examination. A bias against anything, may involve injure or pain. |
profane | not showing respect to God or holy objects |
proselyte | Someone who has converted from one opinion of religion to another |
salvation | Protected from evil. The saving of a person from the power of evil and the punishment. |
Sanctify | To make holy or sacred. To set apart for sacred use. To make free from evil or sin. |

scourge | A whip usually of nine cords joined together at the handle. Often pieces of sharp stone or bone are attached to the free end of each cord. This causes considerable damage to the persons flesh. |

given to the pursuit of sensual pleasures or the gratification of the appetites; self-indulgent sexually or in regard to food and drink; voluptuous, licentious. |
showbread(shewbread) | Bread set or put before the face or presence of God. Consists of twelve baked cakes of fine flour. |
