"Thy Kingdom Come"

Continuing our thoughts on our relationship with God and our worship through the words of the Lord’s Prayer.

Matthew 6:9,10.

"9 After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name.
10 Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven.
11 Give us this day our daily bread.
12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.
13 And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen."

We must note that these words, Thy kingdom come. are a request by the person saying the words for a specific action by God, a petition to Him, asking Him to create His kingdom. We want it to happen.

What are we requesting for God to do then?
God has chosen to only provide specific information on "the Kingdom of God." As a result we have many questions about the "the Kingdom of God."
The original text used for "Kingdom" can also be translated "to rule. " Therefore "Thy Kingdom Come" request is also saying that we want you to rule our lives. Also, the word used for "come" is pointing to a specific point in time.

Most people in the world believe that they do not have an actual "king" who rules over them, scripture indicates otherwise.
Psalm 10:16

"16 The LORD is King for ever and ever: the heathen are perished out of his land."

Psalm 29:10.

"10 The LORD sitteth upon the flood; yea, the LORD sitteth King for ever."

Psalm 47:2,6-8.

"2 For the LORD most high is terrible; he is a great King over all the earth.
6 Sing praises to God, sing praises: sing praises unto our King, sing praises.
7 For God is the King of all the earth: sing ye praises with understanding.
8 God reigneth over the heathen: God sitteth upon the throne of his holiness."

1 Timothy 1:17.

"17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible, the only wise God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen."

Revelation 15:3.

"3 And they sing the song of Moses the servant of God, and the song of the Lamb, saying, Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty; just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints."

When will this kingdom come?

The Kingdom of God is already being created, it started at the birth of Jesus, the Magi came looking for the "baby, born king of the Jews," and then grows during the ministry of Jesus.
Matthew 2:1,2

" 1 Now when Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judaea in the days of Herod the king, behold, there came wise men from the east to Jerusalem,
2 Saying, Where is he that is born King of the Jews? for we have seen his star in the east, and are come to worship him."

Mark 1:15..

.
"14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, 15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel."

Luke 17:20,21.

"20 And when he was demanded of the Pharisees, when the kingdom of God should come, he answered them and said, The kingdom of God cometh not with observation:
21 Neither shall they say, Lo here! or, lo there! for, behold, the kingdom of God is within you."

When Jesus came from God the Father, he brought the Kingdom of God with Him, so why has God done this work in this way?

Because the kingdom of the world was under the control of Satan, he obtained that right in the Garden of Eden when Adam and Eve disobeyed God, though Satan is still subject to the control of God in all matters concerning the world of Mankind.

The world exists as the "Kingdom of Satan and Mankind," a Kingdom of Darkness which is totally against the ultimate "Kingdom of God," which has all power.
Consider the following scripture, the two kingdoms are described in 1 John 3:7-10.

"7 Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
8 He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil.
9 Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God.
10 In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever doeth not righteousness is not of God, neither he that loveth not his brother."

The kingdom of Satan will one day be totally destroyed, but at this moment it is slowly getting smaller as each person that is turning to Jesus Christ as their Saviour moves into the Kingdom of God.
Satan lost the battle when Christ died on the cross in our place, Jesus has taken all the sins of the world upon Himself. A person only has to accept the gift of salvation through Jesus or reject it. On the exception of the gift, you move into the Kingdom of God, on rejection you remain in the kingdom of Satan which will soon be destroyed. The Battle has been won, God is right now He is ’just tiding up a few lose ends.’

Colossians 1:12-14
"12 Giving thanks unto the Father, which hath made us meet to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in light:
13 Who hath delivered us from the power of darkness, and hath translated us into the kingdom of his dear Son:
14 In whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins:"

When we pray Thy kingdom come, it is a very personal request, we are asking Jesus to take control of all parts of our lives, for us to become full citizens of the kingdom of God. Unfortunately there are many who know all about Jesus but have not placed their hearts and life into His hands. You are asking for Jesus to become a dictator of your life, to control it to His glory.

The alternative is "My Kingdom come."

1 John 3:2

" 2 Beloved, now we are the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be; but we know that, when He shall appear, we shall be like Him; for we shall see Him as He is."
