The Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Romans
WRITER. The Apostle Paul Rom 1:1.
DATE. About A.D. 52. Romans is the sixth in order of time written by Paul, it was written from Corinth while he was on his third visit to that city. 2 Cor 13:1 The letter shows that he was hoping to visit Rome very soon followed by a visit to Spain Rom 15:28
THEME. The message of Romans is "the Gospel of God" Rom 1:1, Paul shows that God is the only one who can meet man’s spiritual needs, this is done through His Son Jesus. We are not only saved through Christ, but we also live through His power. Col 2:6,7
Because God has "no respect of persons"; He is not only "the God of the Jews," but " the God of the Gentiles also" Rom 2:11-3:29. Therefore, all the world must be guilty Rom 3:19;.Rom 3:23 Paul goes on to explain that by God’s Grace we can be made right with God. Chapter 9-11 explain how the promises made to Israel link with the Gospel and inclusion of the Gentiles. Ro 11:25-27. The key-phrase is "the righteousness of God" Rom 1:17. The Letter, is in eight parts. I. The introduction Rom 1.1-17
II. The whole world is guilty before God, Rom 1.18-3.20.
IV. Being made right with God by faith, Gospel’s answer for guilt, Rom 3.21-5.11.
V. Crucifixion with Christ, the resurrection life of Christ, and walking in the Spirit, Rom 5.12-8.13.
VI. What we get as a bless because of the Gospel. Rom 8.14-39.
VI. A reminder that the Gospel does not remove God’s promises to Israel, Rom 9.1-11.36.
VII. Christian life and service, Rom 12.1-15.33
VIII. Christian love going out to all. 16.1-27.
