REDEMPTION |
The word Redemption, as used in the Bible, is a very important word, the basic meaning was to obtain, regain, by the means of a payment a person or object which was once owned by you. Slaves were very common in New Testament times, about 60 million, and this word was often used in these time for the freeing of a slave. "7 In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace;" Gives us the Biblical use of the word, Jesus died on the cross to pay the price demanded by God for sin and set the us free by this purchase. From being a slave of Satan and sin those who have trusted in Christ as their Saviour have now been set free from the power of Satan and sin. As a result of the death of Jesus the following effects are now applied to a Believer. Freedom from Sin."Jesus answered them, "Verily, verily I say unto you, whosoever committeth sin is the servant of sin. " "For we know that the law is spiritual; but I am carnal, sold under sin." "being justified freely by His grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus." "God be thanked that though ye were the servants of sin, now ye have obeyed from the heart that form of doctrine which was delivered you." "And for this cause He is the Mediator of the new testament, that by means of death, for the redemption of the transgressions that were covered under the first testament, those who are called might receive the promise of eternal inheritance." "23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord." "(11) ¶ For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, "20 For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s." "1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage. " "45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many." |
Slave of Sin"11 For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, This reminds us that we were once slaves of sin. We know that if we are a slave then we must always obey our "master". Unfortunately an unsaved person has great difficulty in accepting that they are a slave to sin when all they can see is the freedom which seems to be offered by sin., consider the so called freedom given in Titus 3:3. "3 For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. " Slave of the way we lived in our old life."18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; "2 That he no longer should live the rest of his time in the flesh to the lusts of men, but to the will of God. The people just prefer a way of life which is according to the "way of our fathers." The sinner believes that their life is full of pleasure, but, that pleasure will only be for a short time, only a Believer realizes what real freedom is, living according to the will of God. "27 And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment: " These passages are warning us and have the real meaning, that we all have an appointment with God one day, are you ready to attend that appointment? "15 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, "17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. " Are you living according to the Will of God? |
Slave to the LawThe Law was never designed to save a person, it was written to show the sinful nature of Mankind, just like a mirror, you can see the dirt on your face, unfortunately, the Law has also created a curse upon people, see Galatians 3:10. This passage shows that you must keep every law perfectly, no choice is available, only a perfect obedience to the law for all of a persons life will allow a person to be saved, that is impossible as we have a sinful nature which makes us fail the law. "1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. " "1 Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage." The Believer now has the Law of God written into their hearts by the Holy Spirit, we obey because we love God and our new nature created by God makes want to obey God in all respects. |
Slaves to our present BodiesA Believer has a new spiritual body but we all still have a corrupt physical body, a body which is dieing from the moment of birth, Romans 7:23ff "23 But I see another law in my members, warring against the law of my mind, and bringing me into captivity to the law of sin which is in my members." This body will one day be replaced with a perfect everlasting body, "23 And not only they, but ourselves also, which have the first fruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, waiting for the adoption, to wit, the redemption of our body. " "13 In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise." "30 And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption." "20 For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ: |
