Summary of Scripture Words |
Salvation. In a Christian Belief it is the state of being saved from sin by belief, in faith, in Jesus. The English word used to translate as "salvation" is Latin salvare, to save, and salus, health or help, it means "The action or result of being delivered or preserved from a danger or disease. However, in the New Testament it is referring to the action of deliverance from danger by trusting in Jesus Christ Jesus himself only used the word once in, "9 And Jesus said unto him, This day is salvation come to this house, forsomuch as he also is a son of Abraham."He is referring to himself personally or the behaviour of Zacchaeus. Though Jesus used the word "save" regularly through His time on earth, referring to what He came to do for Mankind, For example: Mark 3:4. "4 And he saith unto them, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill But they held their peace."Luke 4:18 "18 The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised,"Luke 9:56 "56 For the Son of man is not come to destroy men’s lives, but to save them And they went to another village."Matthew 18:11. "11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost." These all suggest that salvation was present in the person and ministry of Jesus Christ and more important in His death. Throughout the New Testament we find the action of Salvation, in the John, each chapter refers to a different aspect of salvation. While in Acts we see the effect of salvation upon the people, individually or as a crowd, for example, "28 But Paul cried with a loud voice, saying, Do thyself no harm: for we are all here. In the scripture written by Paul he claims that we are "wise unto salvation" 2 Timothy 33:12-15. "12 Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution. 13 But evil men and seducers shall wax worse and worse, deceiving, and being deceived. 14 But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them; 15 And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.
