SacrificeThe action of was not confined to the nation of Israel, many nation had developed the action of sacrifice, the killing of an animal, or occasionally a human was killed. Most of the sacrifices were made as an offering to a god, in thanks or for something the persons involved wanted or needed The Israelites had offered sacrifices for many years, we can go back to Genesis 3:21 where following Adam and Eve turning away from God, the clothes that were supplied by God were obviously made by killing an animal. The next occasion is found in Genesis 4:4, where Abel, a shepherd, brought a lamb as a sacrifice to God, as blood was shed God accepted the action of faith by Abel, yet Cain who was a gardener offered the fruit of the ground as an offering, which, because of why Cain made the offering God did not accept it. And so we have the first murder of Abel by Cain. Before the giving of the Law, the head of the family was the usual family priest, who offered the sacrifice. But then the law was given and a special group of people were chosen as priests, to offer sacrifices etc. We must remember that these sacrifices were actually "shadows", they were involving and expressing various sinful guilt's and a need for the offerer to be connected to God. "21 For he hath made him to be sin for us, who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in him." The Voluntary, John 10:18, " 18 No man taketh it from me, but I lay it down of myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have I received of my Father." It was Redemptive, Galatians 3:13, "13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:" It was Proprietary, Romans 5:21. "21 That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord. " "13 But now in Christ Jesus ye who sometimes were far off are made nigh by the blood of Christ." It was Reconcilery, 2 Corinthians 5:18-19, "18 And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; Efficacious, the effect, John 12:32,33, " 32 And I, if I be lifted up from the earth, will draw all men unto me. Revelatory, John 3:16 "16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life." |
