Summary of Scripture Words. |
ResurrectionAdam was the first person to be created, he was created a living being by God, "7 And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being." However, the last New creation, Jesus, was the source of all life-giving spirit and a result Jesus has passed this on to certain people, his life was the fountain of all human life. The first and original man on the earth was made of dust from the earth, but the second Man God is also the Lord of the heavens, but with a human mother. "45 And so it is written, The first man Adam was made a living soul; the last Adam was made a quickening spirit. Each of these people are the head of a creation, but "In Adam all will die, yet in Jesus Christ all will be made alive for ever"; The Adamic creation was flesh, but the new creation in Jesus is "spirit" "15 That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. The most important teaching from the first outreach of the disciples was that Jesus had died but was now alive again, the first preachers were certain and believed that Jesus had risen from the dead, the resurrection, and as a consequence, the people who believed in His action and in Him would one day also rise from the dead. In other religions there are resurrections, but none are like the resurrection of Christ, they are mainly mythological which are connected to things which happen on the earth, the season and the coming of spring. Jesus died upon the cross in a very terrible way, he was buried in a guarded tomb, but three days later, the tomb was opened by God and He came back to life, but with a different type of body, a body designed for a life in heaven, pure and holy. The idea by Christians for the resurrection is very different from the Greek and jewish resurrection. The Greeks believed that the body was an hindrance to life and therefore looked to a time when their life would be free of the body, life after death was totally rejected, this explains Paul’s statement as in, "31 Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead. The Old testament has very little to say about resurrection, what is said is not very obvious, the most obvious is found in:- "1 And at that time shall Michael stand up, the great prince which standeth for the children of thy people: and there shall be a time of trouble, such as never was since there was a nation even to that same time: and at that time thy people shall be delivered, every one that shall be found written in the book. The Jewish Sadducees believed that there was no resurrection, though the normal Jews thought that we would have our old weak bodies when we were resurrected. Resurrection in the New TestamentIn the new Testament records we find that Jesus. brought three people back form the dead, The daughter of Jairus, the son of the Nain widow and Lazarus, however, they did not live for ever and eventually died again. "19 If in this life only we have hope in Christ, we are of all men most miserable. This fact shows that Jesus is the master of death, and it shows how important is resurrection to us. The main point that Jesus rose again is that there is no body, we would be very surprised if the religious leaders did not seek the body. Most of the stories of what could have happened are very strange, especially as Jesus was seen by over 500 people in the next few weeks. The disciples certainly would not have taken the body, they were all without hope and scared of what was about to happen to them by the action of the religious leaders. Then we have to ask, why would the religious leaders steal the body, its disappearance would prove how right Jesus was. The early preaching after the resurrection was centered upon the fact that He was alive, if the enemies had produced a dead body at that time Christianity would have disappeared, but they could not do so. The disciples, once broken men were prepared to suffer death and many punishments for their conviction of the resurrection of Jesus, eventually leaving the very Jewish manner of worship, the Sabbath and Baptism, "9 For in him dwelleth all the fulness of the Godhead bodily. The Believers Resurrection"24 Martha saith unto him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. Jesus rose and one day all Believers will rise, this is all part of the resurrection plans of God for His people, "25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live:" This was a divine action, God raised His Son Jesus back to life, He has set a seal upon the atoning work of the cross. There are other levels of resurrection, one day, at the great White Throne, any one whose name is not in the Book of Life and has already been raised, they will now be raised from the dead to go into eternal judgement. We do not have much detail of the new body other than it will be a spiritual body and will be incorruptible, like Him(Jesus). "42 So also is the resurrection of the dead. It is sown in corruption; it is raised in incorruption: Marriage does not exist in heaven, and so therefore neither will any sexual functions be required, "24 And Jesus answering said unto them, Do ye not therefore err, because ye know not the scriptures, neither the power of God? Jesus is able to exist normally and then choose to be a spiritual being, this may indicate that we will have a similar body. |
