Summary of Scripture Words. |
RegenerationThe word "regeneration" occurs only twice in the New Testament:"28 And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel." This is referring to the restoration of all things "5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost; " This is referring to an individual there are other words used to describe the changes generated by the Holy Spirit- John 3:3,7 "3 Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. Other variation on the use of the words having the same meaning, the Greek word used is "anöthen" this is changed, to mean "give birth to." "13 Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. " "29 If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him."The word in Greek is "anagennaö" which means "to bring again to birth" "23 Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever." These words are often used to describe the start of a renewal:- "2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God." "5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;" "16 For which cause we faint not; but though our outward man perish, yet the inward man is renewed day by day." We also get the translation of "new creation" "17 Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new." We also have a translation twice which means "to make alive with" "5 Even when we were dead in sins, hath quickened us together with Christ, (by grace ye are saved;) " "13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses; " All these words have a very dramatic and drastic change, which is likened "to being born again," several of the words indicate a permanent effect on the person(s) The action must be considered as a result of sin, the effect is so serious that only a new birth is the answer, without this action the person cannot enter heaven or the kingdom of God. Regeneration come from God via the Holy Spirits action and has been a mystery(hidden) of God until now. "6 Howbeit we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought: We must notice that this divine action is a once only occurrence. The person is still the same, but the regeneration by the Holy Spirit causes a different way of living for that person, for the Spirit controls and the person lives in the Spirit, is led by the Spirit, and is commanded to be filled by the Spirit. The person is not perfect, full regeneration, physically, has still to happen at the entry into heaven at death or the Rapture, but the persons personality is directed towards God. "2 As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby:" |
