Summary of Scripture Words.
Redemption.

Redemption.

The action of redeeming or the state of being redeemed

In the Israelite family system, it applies to a relative of the person being possibly "Redeemed." It has the meaning of "To buy back", "to exchange for cash", "to recover"

A person has fallen into a bad situation and needs help from what ever the fault is, a sinful or evil acton, a financial situation.

There are a number of other meanings, not necessarily to do with Scripture.
To fulfil a promise
To regain the possession of an object in exchange for a payment.
To repay a debt.

There are a number of rules as to who can be redeemed and by whom.
1) The person doing the redeeming must be a relative of the person involved.
Leviticus 25:48,49

"48 After that he is sold he may be redeemed again; one of his brethren may redeem him:
49 Either his uncle, or his uncle’s son, may redeem him, or any that is nigh of kin unto him of his family may redeem him; or if he be able, he may redeem himself."
Ruth 4:1-6
"1 Then went Boaz up to the gate, and sat him down there: and, behold, the kinsman of whom Boaz spake came by; unto whom he said, Ho, such a one! turn aside, sit down here. And he turned aside, and sat down.
2 And he took ten men of the elders of the city, and said, Sit ye down here. And they sat down.
3 And he said unto the kinsman, Naomi, that is come again out of the country of Moab, selleth a parcel of land, which was our brother Elimelech's:
4 And I thought to advertise thee, saying, Buy it before the inhabitants, and before the elders of my people. If thou wilt redeem it, redeem it: but if thou wilt not redeem it, then tell me, that I may know: for there is none to redeem it beside thee; and I am after thee. And he said, I will redeem it.
5 Then said Boaz, What day thou buyest the field of the hand of Naomi, thou must buy it also of Ruth the Moabitess, the wife of the dead, to raise up the name of the dead upon his inheritance.
6 And the kinsman said, I cannot redeem it for myself, lest I mar mine own inheritance: redeem thou my right to thyself; for I cannot redeem it."
2) The redeemer must be able to redeem. Ruth 3:11-13
"11 And now, my daughter, fear not; I will do to thee all that thou requirest: for all the city of my people doth know that thou art a virtuous woman.
12 And now it is true that I am thy near kinsman: howbeit there is a kinsman nearer than I.
13 Tarry this night, and it shall be in the morning, that if he will perform unto thee the part of a kinsman, well; let him do the kinsman's part: but if he will not do the part of a kinsman to thee, then will I do the part of a kinsman to thee, as the LORD liveth: lie down until the morning."

3) The redemption is effected by the person paying the just demand in full.
Leviticus 25:26,27

"26 And if the man have none to redeem it, and himself be able to redeem it; 27 Then let him count the years of the sale thereof, and restore the over plus unto the man to whom he sold it; that he may return unto his possession. "

The Redeemer

Jesus Christ is also known as the Redeemer, for by His death, resurrection and now sits by God the Father, He has paid the requirement, that a sinless person must die in the place of each person of all the world, to pay for their sin. He has paid the price but the person being offered redemption must reach out and accept the offer.

Galatians 3:13
"13 Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:"

1 Peter 1:18,19

"18 Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;
19 But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:"
