Summary of Scripture Words.
Mediator

Mediator

The word "Mediator" does not occur very often in scriptures, for example :- Hebrews 8:6,7

"6 But now hath he obtained a more excellent ministry, by how much also he is the mediator of a better covenant, which was established upon better promises.
7 For if that first covenant had been faultless, then should no place have been sought for the second."
1 Timothy 2:5
"5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;"
The basic idea of a mediator is a person who is prepared to intervene between two parties so that they can promote relationships between them, a relationship which they have been unable to achieve.

In the Old Testament, this was often done by the prophet or priest, it is however a very important relationship between God and His people. Moses was a very important mediator,
Exodus 32:29-33.

"9 For Moses had said, Consecrate yourselves to day to the LORD, even every man upon his son, and upon his brother; that he may bestow upon you a blessing this day.
30 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses said unto the people, Ye have sinned a great sin: and now I will go up unto the LORD; peradventure I shall make an atonement for your sin.
31 And Moses returned unto the LORD, and said, Oh, this people have sinned a great sin, and have made them gods of gold.
32 Yet now, if thou wilt forgive their sin--; and if not, blot me, I pray thee, out of thy book which thou hast written.
33 And the LORD said unto Moses, Whosoever hath sinned against me, him will I blot out of my book."

Numbers 12:5-9.

"5 And the LORD came down in the pillar of the cloud, and stood in the door of the tabernacle, and called Aaron and Miriam: and they both came forth.
6 And he said, Hear now my words: If there be a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known unto him in a vision, and will speak unto him in a dream.
7 My servant Moses is not so, who is faithful in all mine house.
8 With him will I speak mouth to mouth, even apparently, and not in dark speeches; and the similitude of the LORD shall he behold: wherefore then were ye not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?
9 And the anger of the LORD was kindled against them; and he departed."

Moses was the instrument by which the covenant at Sinai was confirmed and ratified.
Jesus and Moses are compared and contrasted.

Jesus as the Mediator.

The title was applied from the beginning as the title belongs to Jesus Christ, the Old Testament appointments were just the shadow of what was to come. Hebrews 7:25-28

"25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.
26 For such an high priest became us, who is holy, harmless, undefiled, separate from sinners, and made higher than the heavens;
27 Who needeth not daily, as those high priests, to offer up sacrifice, first for his own sins, and then for the people's: for this he did once, when he offered up himself.
28 For the law maketh men high priests which have infirmity; but the word of the oath, which was since the law, maketh the Son, who is consecrated for evermore."

It is very important that we do not take away the honour, it belongs to Him. The title may not be used very often but the facts of its use are every where in the scriptures, the redemptive and mediatory work of Jesus Christ.

Jesus was also involved with the creation of the universe, He would still be the mediator in the creation,
John 1:3,

"3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made."

Colossians 1:16

"16 For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him:"

Hebrews 1:2

"2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;"

Mediation in Salvation

The task of salvation and redemption is the action of the obedience of Jesus to go to the cross for each one of us and give his blood and life for each of us, in obedience to the Father, the result is peace with God for us.
Romans 5:1.

"1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God."

Mediation continues

No human will be perfect until after the Rapture, until then we will fail and require our Mediator to intervene for us, to restore our access to God, to go into the presence of the Father. It is through Jesus that we have access to grace, peace and righteousness unto eternal life.

Christ is at the right hand side of God, as the Priest and King of the Lord"s people, one day we shall all be perfect like him and sons of God, immortal and incorruptible.
Matthew 28:18-20..

"18 And Jesus came and spake unto them, saying, All power is given unto me in heaven and in earth.
19 Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:
20 Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world Amen."
