Summary of Scripture Words. |
Election.Election, the Hebrew and Greek words used in the scriptures are translated as "Elect" "Election" "Choose" or "Chosen". The word expresses the idea of a deliberate selection of the person or group after considering the alternatives. In all situations the meaning is chosen or choose, whether used by God or by human choices. The divine normally translated as the word "Election". This applies definitely to the nation of Israel - "4 For Jacob my servant’s sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me." Or the church:- Ephesians 1:4 "4 According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: " "9 But ye are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, an holy nation, a peculiar people; that ye should shew forth the praises of him who hath called you out of darkness into his marvellous light:" The individual: "2 Elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace unto you, and peace, be multiplied. " The action of Election is done according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, and totally by the grace, or love of God. This is as long as the action does not involve the "Works of Mankind" "5 Even so then at this present time also there is a remnant according to the election of grace. We must also always remember that it was the action of God: John 15:16 "16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you." Therefore the action of "election" is by the sovereign acts of God where certain people are chosen, by God, from the human race for Himself, "19 If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you." This points to the fact that certain people could be elected for specific tasks for Himself.- "15 But the Lord said unto him, Go thy way: for he is a chosen vessel unto me, to bear my name before the Gentiles, and kings, and the children of Israel: God does not always chose the obvious person, "26 For ye see your calling, brethren, how that not many wise men after the flesh, not many mighty, not many noble, are called: This means that anyone who is Elected has the privilege of access to God and the responsibilities of praising and worship, and also guarding the truth of God. We have become a special people, by the gracious choosing of God, and so creating a group of people which did not exist before. "10 Which in time past were not a people, but are now the people of God: which had not obtained mercy, but now have obtained mercy." "9 Who hath saved us, and called us with an holy calling, not according to our works, but according to his own purpose and grace, which was given us in Christ Jesus before the world began," God will also provide protection during the coming Tribulation time. "20 And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days. |
