Summary of Scripture Words.
Advocate

Advocate

The word "advocate" or paraklëtos, in the epistles of John has the literally meaning of "to call beside", this has been translated as "one who stands by and encourages or exhorts", this is then to become "the Comforter"
John 14:16,26

"16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;
26 But the Comforter, which is the Holy Ghost, whom the Father will send in my name, he shall teach you all things, and bring all things to your remembrance, whatsoever I have said unto you."

John 15 26

"26 But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:"

John 16:7

"7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;
10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged."

It also has the meaning of a person "standing beside someone" in a law-court, translated as "Advocate"
1 John 2:1

"1 My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: "

Though in this case "advocate" is referring to Jesus and not the Holy Spirit.

Parakaleö, the verb, is used to mean "encourage" or "exhort"
Acts 9:31

"31 Then had the churches rest throughout all Judaea and Galilee and Samaria, and were edified; and walking in the fear of the Lord, and in the comfort of the Holy Ghost, were multiplied."

Some critics have said that the use of "paraklëtos," is wrong as it is authors of two works, but the Holy Spirit is on earth amidst the earthly dangers while Jesus is in heaven,
Romans 8:26,27 then 34.

"26 Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.
27 And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God.
34 Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us."
