The thoughts and note material given on these pages are only a possible suggestion of the meaning, they must not be taken as inspired. There are many ways in which God’s Word can be analyzed and none must be taken in place of the Word of God itself.
The Epistle of Paul the Apostle to the Ephesians
WRITER.The Apostle Paul Eph 1:1.
DATE. Ephesians was written from Rome about A.D. 64. It is the first of the Prison Epistles. It was sent by Tychicus, it is believed at the same time as Colossians and Philemon.
Col 4:16 mentions a letter to the Laodicean’s. It is thought that this is probably the letter that we now know as "Paul’s letter to the Ephesians."
Reason. The doctrine in the letter contains the church truth, however there are no instructions on church order. Paul is referring to the true Church, "The Body of Christ," not the local church, as in the other letters such as Philippians, Corinthians, etc. There are three basic truths given in this letter from Paul:
1) The believer’s exalted position through grace; 2) The truth concerning the body of Christ; 3) Walking in accordance with that position. The letter is broken up as follows:
Greetings. 1:1-2.
The Believers position in Christ through Grace. 1:3-3:21.
How to live our lives considering our position in that Body. 4:1-6:24.
